About the Centre

The goal of the Norwegian Nuclear Research Centre is to increase Norway's competence within the fields of nuclear physics and nuclear chemistry. Our work includes research on properties of the atomic nucleus as well as applications within the fields of medicine, energy, and preparedness.

The Nuclear Science Centre is a cross-disciplinary collaboration between Norway’s leading institutions within nuclear physics and nuclear chemistry research: University of Oslo (UiO), Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), and Institute for Energy Technology (IFE). We also have a range of collaborators, including universities abroad and the nuclear industry in Norway.

We address major research questions within the nuclear field spanning topics from nuclear properties and medical isotope production, to reactor simulations and modeling of spread of radioactivity in the environment.

Our research

Nuclear physics and nuclear chemistry is the study of the basic properties of the atomic nucleus, and nuclear technology is how these properties can be exploited for different applications.

We work on a range of different topics relating to the atomic nucleus and nuclear technology. All the topics are closely related to Norway's need for increased competence within the fields of radiation protection, nuclear medicine, decommissioning, and nuclear preparedness.
