Probing the Extremes of the Nuclear Chart

Nuclei at the limits of existence provide stringent tests of nuclear models and host phenomena that are absent along the line of stability. In his talk, Dr. Dariusz Seweryniak, Senior Physicist at Argonne National Laboratory, will discuss three such studies, carried out at the Argonne Tandem Linac Accelerator System (ATLAS) and the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) [read more].

I will discuss studies on superallowed alpha decay of ¹⁰⁴Te into ¹⁰⁰Sn, new results on proton emission from deformed nuclei, and the rotation of transfermium nuclei at the limit of fission stability. I will conclude with the prospects opened by GRETA, the gamma-ray energy tracking array, coming to ATLAS.
