Excursion with guests from India and Norway at the Cyclotron laboratory at UiO, 08.10.2026

Recently we welcomed guests from India and Norway at the Norwegian Nuclear Research Centre, University of Oslo, to discuss opportunities for collaboration in thorium-based nuclear technologies. We were pleased to welcome:

• Prof. Arun Kumar Nayak, Dean and Director, Centre for Nuclear Science & Technology, Somaiya University, Mumbai, India

• Dr. Alf Bjørseth, Member of the NNRC Advisory Board

• Carl Oscar Wessel

The meeting also comes at a time of growing cooperation between Norway and India, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Norway in May 2026. India aims to scale up its nuclear power capacity from approximately 8.8 GW to 100 GW by 2047 as part of its strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070 [1].

Our discussions focused on joint research, technology development and closer cooperation between academia and industry. Education and student exchange were also important topics. We hope this meeting will help strengthen academic ties between India and Norway in nuclear science and technology.

Thank you for an inspiring meeting! We look forward to building on these discussions and exploring opportunities for future collaboration.
